Funerals

Funerals at Saint Edward

Please call the church office before setting a date and time to ensure that our priest will be available, as well as the church and the parish hall for the reception.  If there is to be a burial and the family wishes that a priest be present, that should also be mentioned so that the time for that can also be scheduled.

For our funerals, a book, Through Death to Life, is used to help you personalize the Mass of your loved one by picking out the readings and prayers that you find most suitable.  You may pick this book up in the office to help you plan.

An appointment with Father is usually set up so the family can discuss the deceased.  This can help Father give a meaningful homily.

For our funerals, a list of suggested/favorite songs is provided with a note to call our Music Coordinator to discuss the music.

Each of our funerals consists of:

  1. A Celebrant ($150) who greets the guests, explains the  symbols, processes into church, says the prayers, reads the Gospel, speaks meaningful words about the deceased, prepares the altar for the liturgy of the Eucharist, and does the final commendation.
  2. A Coordinator of Ministry ($100), who opens the church, sets up for Mass, greets the family, answers any questions of the family and instructs/helps them in their various roles.
  3. A cantor ($150) and a musician ($150) who sing/play four songs which are picked for the Mass: one for the processional, one for the offering, one for communion, and one for the recessional.  The musician and cantor also sing all the Mass parts.
