Count the Cost Before You Follow Me

Pastor’s Column

23rd Sunday Ordinary Time

September 5, 2010

Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem in this Sunday’s gospel (Luke 14:25-33).  Great crowds are following him.  They have been left spellbound by his teachings; they have seen his miracles; he has fed them miraculously.  They say that they are going to follow him...

Humility is Important to God

Pastor’s Column

22rd Sunday Ordinary Time

August 29, 2010

My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts.  Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.”

Questioning God

Pastor’s Column

21st Sunday Ordinary Time

August 22, 2010

“Lord, are there few in number who will be saved?”

                                                Luke 13:22

We all have questions for God, sometimes very tough questions. It is very enlightening to look at the Scriptures to see which types of questions...

Mary is Assumed into Heaven

Pastor’s Column

19th Sunday Ordinary Time

August 15, 2010

How many resurrected bodies do we know are in heaven right now?  The answer, of course, is that there are at least two: Jesus and his mother.  Jesus’ ascension is found in scripture; Mary’s assumption is not.  So why do we believe this?

Where Your Treasure Is…..

Pastor’s Column

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 8, 2010

Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out,

an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

"Everywhere We Meet the Cross!"

Pastor’s Column

18th Sunday Ordinary Time

August 1, 2010

All of us have periods of our lives where things just don’t seem to go the way we hope they will. We have to struggle with God’s permissive or active will… things he allows in our lives or chooses for us that we would not necessarily prefer!

Since returning from Rome, among other things, my laptop caught on fire (for the 2nd time), my PDA got caught in a door and broke that same week and my printer stopped working (it’s under warranty – a new one is being shipped...but took hours to resolve). Additionally, after 10 years of flawlessly using an electronic calendar, I lost all my appointments for the entire year (even though everything was triple backed up). This week, the lower half of the rectory refrigerator gave up, and I had to throw all my food out! Haven’t we all had months like this?! What does God have to say about it?

 Praying the Our Father

Pastor’s Column

17th Sunday Ordinary Time

July 25, 2010

When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come.

Give us each day our daily bread

And forgive us our sins

For we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,

And do not subject us to the final test.”
