First Reconciliation and First Eucharist
Children at St. Edward Parish prepare for and receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time during their second grade year. Before a child is eligible to begin preparations to celebrate these sacraments, the child must be enrolled in and attend one year of Faith Formation classes. Preparation classes are offered on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:10 a.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is usually celebrated in November and First Communion usually takes place in May.

Children’s Faith Formation Classes
St. Edward Parish offers Faith Formation classes for children age 3 through 5th grade. Classes for Grades 1 through 5 are held on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:10 a.m. Preschool and Kindergarten classes also meet on Sunday morning during 10:30 a.m. Mass. Classes begin in late September and end the first Sunday in May with a Children's Mass and Mary Crowning Celebration.
Classes will begin this fall on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Children can be enrolled in Faith Formation classes at any time during the school year. Please call the parish office for registration information. Contact Patty Meadows at 503-393-5323 x 302.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered on most Sundays during the 10:30 am Mass. Children in Grades 1-5 are invited to go with their own Minister of the Word to hear the readings and the Gospel proclaimed at their own level. They are then given the opportunity to discuss the readings and offer their own prayer intentions before returning to Mass in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Altar Servers 
Altar Servers are those who want to answer the call to serve our Lord by assisting the Priest during mass. Servers must be 10 years old and have received the sacrament of Holy Communion. Anyone wanting to become an altar server, please call Cindy Schnurbusch at 503-463-6472 to sign up for a training session.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled week during the summer where children will learn about Jesus and His great love for us. Each day the children will hear a Bible story, make crafts, play games, praise Jesus through song, and have a yummy snack.
At St. Edward Parish, our Vacation Bible School is held in late July and all children age 4 through those just finishing 5th grade are invited to attend.
Cub Scouts
The Cub Scouts are available to boys in the First Grade through Fifth Grade, age 6 through 10. For information, contact Chuck McKay at 971-218-0099
Childcare during Mass and Activities
Childcare for children age 1 to 3 is available in the nursery in the parish hall during the 10:30 am Mass each Sunday. The nursery is set up as a co-op whereby parents who use this service are scheduled on a rotating basis to assist the Nursery Director, Mary Hancock.
